Junior High

Academics – Grades 7-8

We at St. Patrick School incorporate a variety of instructional methodologies to equip our students for success. Our goal is to teach students to communicate effectively, create strong study habits, and recognize the value in different perspectives. We learn, reflect, and work hard each day to pursue our goals. The use of games, peer editing, note taking, study guides, and interactive student notebooks helps students study and solve problems. Within the junior high, we focus on developing study skills that will follow students through high school and beyond.

Every school year we begin with a presentation and reflection activity about digital etiquette (sending emails, commenting to others, etc.) and another about academic honesty. Students set academic and spiritual goals throughout the year, returning to these goals to track progress as the trimesters progress.

Both accelerated and standard grade-level math and ELA classes are offered in 7th and 8th grades. This allows for smaller class sizes in core subject areas and differentiates content to meet the needs of junior high learners.

All student grades are posted in your online portal for you to see at any time.

Junior High School in Arroyo Grande

Religion

We prioritize our student’s engagement and growth in their relationship with Christ. By putting God’s word into action, we seek to understand the teaching and traditions of the Catholic Church. Students participate in monthly school wide masses with each grade hosting one mass each year. After each Mass, students reflect on the ways they grew closer to God in Mass, the Gospel readings, and how they will take these lessons and put them into action.

Mercy/Service Projects

Within religion class time, junior high students actively engage in three-four mercy projects per year. This includes:

=
Recess Snack Bar: Recess Snack Bar. The money raised goes directly toward purchasing Christmas gifts for senior citizens in need in the local community. We are able to adopt over 40 senior citizens to present with Christmas gifts!
=

Annual Valentine’s Market: With the money raised, we purchase duffle bags and birthday boxes for children in foster care within the community

=

Schoolwide Toiletry Drive: Schoolwide Toiletry Drive for the shelters run by the students

=

Special Olympics: Our junior high students run games at the Special Olympics

Community Service

Our students must complete 25 hours of community service each year in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. This is one way students build compassion as they actively respond to the needs of the world around them.

Field Trips & Enrichment Opportunities:

Our students participate in student retreats off campus, 6th Grade Science Camp, and every other year take a trip to Washington DC for 7th and 8th graders to learn more about our government.

Student Council is another avenue in which students are offered opportunities to develop leadership skills in 7th and 8th grade.
